12 km of beaches at just 10 minutes from Piazza San Marco
At Venice Lido in the morning you wake up in the silence: Art Nouveau villas, gardens, a light breeze out of the window and the sweet sound of the sea in the distance.
Waking up at the Lido is like waking up in Venice, but from a distance on a terrace where you can see San Marco, while soaking in the peace and tranquillity. You can take a bike for a ride to the island and discover St. Nicholas where the sea touches the lagoon, the village of Malamocco, the beach of 10 km with its Natural Oasis of Alberoni Dunes.
Very little is needed to soak up the history, nature and to practice a variety of sports: golf, tennis, horse riding, archery, the traditional Venetian rowing, staying just 10 minutes from San Marco. The Lido is an island with a view, halfway between the lagoon and the Adriatic, so close and yet so different from the suggestiveness of the lagoon city, where you can experience Venice but in perspective.
The Lido beach stretches for about 12 km and is characterized by a gently sloping seabed that allows even the youngest kids to enjoy the sea in peace. You can choose to enjoy the sea in one of the beaches, public beaches or in the beach of the WWF Oasis of Alberoni, located at the southern end of the island. Thanks to its golden thin sandy beach, since the mid-nineteenth century the island was a favorite destination of the European nobility.
In 1857 the first bathing establishment was built in Venice Lido, at the behest of the entrepreneur John Fisola. The establishment of Fisola become over the years afashionable seaside resort and the meeting of European high society. One of the bathing habits of the late nineteenth century is still preserved today at the Lido, and they are the typical wooden huts located along the beach. The huts allow, yestarday as today, to have a place to change clothes, eat and shelter from the sun during the hottest hours and enjoy a more relaxed bathing.
The Lido beach was rewarded, even in 2014, the Blue Flag (www.bandierablu.org) delivered to seaside resorts that keep the beaches clean and properly manage their territory.
